A Private Concert: The Head and the Heart

Let me invite you into my evening last night.  Through a series of connections, a fairly well-known band (which is increasing in popularity) gave a home show at Anna's house last night: The Head and the Heart.  It was surreal.  It was a private event with a restrictive guest list.  (I was allowed to come because the house could invite 10 people).  The craziest part was that they normally play for thousands of people (you can find them on pandora) and there they were, strumming in the backyard.  I was slightly star-struck.

After the show, the band members just hung around and were playing songs on the piano and guitar in the family room and we got to talk with them...after all, they were just normal people.  (Well, a Californified version of normal - we call them hipsters here).
The Band.
The Band & Meg.

They are incredible!  I have posted a few of their videos.  I guarantee, if you listen a few times, you will fall in love with their unique vocal and instrumental arrangements.  Tell me what you think! :)

Marvelous Mornings

Breakfast with roommate Ellen.  Can you think of a better way to wake-up? :)  I could love mornings.

Here we go again...

Monday night I sort of felt like this...
"Oh my goodness, I forgot how crazy I am when I am taking 3 classes and working 15-20 hrs. a week as a Teaching & Grad Assistant."

And after a full week of little sleep and lots of reading, I feel like this...

But, good news, I don't have class tomorrow. :)  Ah, how sweet it will be to rest a little bit.
(And, don't worry mom & dad, my schedule will calm down a bit.  I'm incredibly blessed to be working on campus and gaining valuable experience...and I'm working toward a more balanced lifestyle).  --That's my challenge to myself and all of the other over-active Reuber family members...let's eat healthy, exercise, and get more sleep.  What do you think?  Can we do it?

Well, let's try. :)  Love you guys.

Chez Moi

Welcome to my room.  It's cozy, charming, and cute.
(OR so I feel).
very meg-esque.
Officially Zen-ified...candles and all.
You should see it in person. ;)

Savouring Summer

Yes, I have two days left before the semester begins.  Yes, I'm trying to make the most of these last few days of freedom.
And, if it looks like I'm having way too much fun....just remember, I'm missing all of you. :)  (And I'll be a dedicated grad student again in a few days!)
SO...let the pictures tell the story:
Ellen & I prepared a delicious meal for a Sunday evening ladies' night.  I made hummus, spinach dip, and pineapple salsa.

...and we shared great moments of laughter.  You should've been there.

Ellen's mom came into town Wednesday night, and we went out for manicures and pedicures Thursday morning! :)  (Marn & Melissa...WHEN you come, we will get them done...at a pretty reasonable price!)
Bonfire at Anna's Thursday night, followed by....

You guessed it!  KARAOKE! :)
Friday morning = surf morning with Tiffany, Sherry, Ben, Toby, and Benyam!  AGAIN. I'm getting better...in fact, I think I can officially call myself a "surfette."

Saturday morning, Ellen's mom took us out to breakfast at a sweet little cafe in Fullerton.
It was delicious!
Bubble Tea with Sherry in the afternoon and a trip to the Chinese Market!

Saturday night, a few friends came in from the Bay Area...and we all went out for dinner!

Surf's Up

Due to popular demand, I have changed the font for all of you old fogies (ahem, Dad).  Hopefully, this is easier on the eyes! ;)
Anyways, just a quick little post...these days = catching up with friends, organizing the room (I bought a desk and will put up pictures when all is in place), and more catching up with friends!  The days sort of run into one another.  I'm also trying to catch-up on some work for Dr.S...I usually spend a few hours in the morning on that...and prepare for the school semester.
Friday was definitely the highlight of the week...yep, SURFING!  Ben took a bunch of beginners out with him...and we had A LOT of fun!  My jaw is always so sore after surfing because I smile the whole time.  There's just something so incredibly breath-taking about the ocean!  We enjoyed the water and had a BBQ on the beach.  What a great day!
AND, I stood up 4 times!

From left to right: Kenny (Tiffany's bf), Travis (Tiffany's brother who is visiting for the week), me, Tiffany (my roommate and dear friend), Benyam (my African brother), and Ben, the Hawaiian in the front.  :)
Roommates...and I'm wearing a wetsuit taken from the basement of Christie cottage!

Toby (Ben's roommate) is BBQing!

Sunshine & Palm Trees

I want to invite you into my life a bit.  I wish you were all here to live life with me.  BUT, since you're not...how about I at least fill you in every once and awhile?  What do you think?  I would love to hear from you...your thoughts & comments.  I love you all and want to stay in touch as much as possible.  So here goes my very first post about the mundane and magnificent happenings in Meg's life! ;)

I can't believe I live here.  yep.  It's just as beautiful as it was when I left.  But, I don't love it here because of the gorgeous weather and sandy beaches.  I've missed these people.  Seriously.  I am blessed with a wonderful community - roommates, church, and other Biola students.  And, they are a lot of fun!

I arrived safely into Santa Ana Thursday night and was greeted warmly by my dear friends - Anna, David, and Anna's bff from Missouri: Adie.  We went and had FRO-YO!  (Of course...it's my favorite SoCal treat!)  ...Imagine a plethora of delicious (and somewhat healthy) flavors that explode in your mouth with a variety of tasty toppings.  I love this stuff...you should come out and visit me and we will have some!

After fro-yo, the adventerous trio headed down to Hollywood.  Yes, it was a late night.  But, Hollywood is less crowded with tourists at nightime.  We just enjoyed being with each other and exploring the city...listening to music with the windows down on the freeway. :)

Friday, I woke up fairly early (considering the previous night's adventures) and spent some quality time with my good friend, Sherry.  She is a grad student from Taiwan and goes to the same church as me.  She has been such a blessing!

In the afternoon, I went to Anna's house and we took underwater pictures in the pool!  (In our clothes).  I'm waiting to see how they turned out...I may post a few.  Adie is a professional photographer!

Friday night I borrowed Ellen's car (she was out of town) and drove to see Cara & Dan - the newly engaged couple!  I had dinner at Dan's house and really loved seeing the two of them together!  Dan is going to help me buy a car, or so I'm hoping.  He is a very trustworthy guy.

Saturday morning I ran some errands and then went to an LA Galaxy soccer game with David, his roommates, and cousin.  It was a whole lot of fun!  I had no idea that David Beckham plays for the team (you know that ex-British soccer player).

Sunday morning was filled with sweet moments; I really missed my church family!  It was great to see everyone again.  Tiffany (my roommate) and I spent the afternoon together and then I spent time with Anna & Adie before picking Ellen (my other roommate) up from the airport!  Then, we drove to Buena park to meet our 5th roommate - yep - it's a He: Amadeus...our little puppy!  He's actually really cute and very well behaved.  I think that I love him.

Anyways, that's my brief event-by-event update.  I miss you all and would love to catch-up on Skype or the phone.  You can follow my blog...or subsribe to it, and I will send you the link when I post.

Much love, meg
